Our Story
Key City Consultants was founded with a simple mission: bring integrity, discipline, and real-world experience back into the construction industry.
After years of service in the U.S. Coast Guard and boots-on-the-ground work in the construction world, our founder, Jacob “Diesel Dad” Karlsson, saw a gap that needed to be filled. Projects were running off-track, communication between trades was breaking down, and too often—quality and accountability were the first things cut.
So in 2024, with a deep love for country, community, and craftsmanship, Jacob launched Key City Consultants from Frederick, Maryland — a town with strong roots and a relentless work ethic.
What started as a one-man operation offering spec reviews and coordination support quickly evolved. Clients began recognizing the value of having someone who could speak the language of both the field and the boardroom. Someone who could walk a site one day, and break down a contract the next. Someone who wasn’t afraid to say, “This isn’t right. Let’s fix it.”
With a growing team and a strategic partnership with Building Success LLC, Key City now supports projects across the region — providing project management, QA/QC, trade coordination, and cost forecasting to developers, contractors, and municipalities alike.
